Updated this week

Overview

Connect your WhatsApp Business number to Spur to start automating customer conversations, sending broadcasts, and managing all your messaging from one platform. This guide walks you through the complete setup process.

Prerequisites

Before starting, make sure you have:

Phone Number Requirements

Your phone number must meet one of these conditions:

  • Not currently on WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app (preferred)

  • Currently on WhatsApp Business API with another provider (you'll need to disable two-factor authentication and migrate)

  • If your number is on regular WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app: Delete the account first, then proceed with Spur onboarding

Business Manager Access

  • Full admin access to your Facebook Business Manager (also called Meta Business Portfolio)

This is what full admin access looks like. It should say ''Full Control (Everything)'' next to the Name that says '(you)'.

  • Admin permissions are required for WhatsApp integration

Business Verification Documents

If your business isn't already verified, you'll need one of these documents:

  • GST Certificate (Most preferred by Meta)

  • MSME Certificate

  • Udyam Certificate

  • Any other official business registration papers

More on how to verify your business here.

Spur Account

  • Active Spur account with admin permissions

Step 1: Prepare Your Phone Number

If Number is Clean (Not on WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business App or WhatsApp Business API in any form currently)

Proceed directly to Step 2.

If Number is on WhatsApp Business API with Another Provider

Disable 2 Step Verification. Here's a detailed text guide on how to do that.

If your number was at any point in the past used with AiSensy, fill this form. Why it's needed is explained here.

If you'd rather watch a video, here's a quick 40 second video on that too.

If Number is on Regular WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business App

  1. Open the WhatsApp app with your number

  2. Go to Settings > Account > Delete Account

  3. Confirm deletion and wait for complete removal

  4. Verify the number is no longer associated with any WhatsApp service

Step 2: Set Up Facebook Business Manager

  4. Verify your business email address

Complete Business Verification (If you haven't done already)

  3. Upload required documents (GST, MSME, Udyam, or incorporation papers)

Step 4: Test Your Setup

  2. Verify messages appear in your Spur inbox by sending some from your personal number to your now-Spur connected WhatsApp number.

  3. Test automated responses and flows

Common Issues and Solutions

Connection Failed (The number will show in 'Pending' state)

  • Try refreshing permissions in Spur settings

  • If it says 'Refreshing permissions failed', please check if your 2FA is disabled or not, and then try again. If it still shows the same error, contact us.

Number Already in Use Error (Meta might show this through the Facebook pop up where you sign up from)

  • Double-check the number is completely removed from all WhatsApp services

  • Wait 24 hours after deletion before attempting connection

  • Contact Spur support if issues persist

Business Verification Not Done (You might see ''WABA is unverified'' error when trying to send messages)

  • Wait for the verification to be completed by Meta first

  • If it has failed, then try again and ensure documents are clear and valid

  • Legal business name must match across all documents

  • Your website should have the legal business name in the footer

  • Resubmit with corrected information

Next Steps

Once connected successfully:

  1. Set up your first automation flows

  2. Configure your live chat widget

  3. Train your team on the Spur interface

  4. Start engaging with customers through WhatsApp

Your WhatsApp Business number is now ready to handle customer conversations, automated responses, and marketing campaigns through Spur.
