How to Disconnect WhatsApp Business App from API (Coexistence)

If you've connected your WhatsApp Business App to a platform like Spur and need to disconnect it, here's how to do it directly from your phone.

Updated over a week ago

Use case

This is to be used when you are using coexistence mode (meaning WhatsApp Business API with a provider like Spur and also the WhatsApp Business app at the same time) and want to switch to a different Business Solution Provider (BSP) or just want to go back to using the standalone app.

Before You Start

Make sure you're doing this from the WhatsApp Business App on your phone. This won't work from WhatsApp Web or the regular WhatsApp app.

Step 1: Open Settings and Go to Account

Open your WhatsApp Business App and tap on Settings (the gear icon at the bottom right). Then tap on Account.

Step 2: Tap on Business Platform

Inside the Account settings, you'll see an option called Business Platform. Tap on it to see which platform your number is currently connected to.

Step 3: Disconnect from the Platform

You'll now see the connected platform (in this case, Spur). It shows the Meta account and WhatsApp account linked to your number. Tap anywhere on this card to disconnect.

When you tap it, you'll get a confirmation. Confirm the disconnect and you're done. Your number will no longer be linked to the API platform.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

  • You can only be connected to one Business Platform at a time. So if you want to connect to a new one, you'll need to disconnect from the current one first.

  • Open your app at least once every 14 days to keep the connection active. If you don't, the link might expire automatically.

  • Disconnecting won't delete your WhatsApp Business App data or chats. It just removes the link to the external platform.

  • If you're switching BSPs, make sure the new platform is ready to connect before you disconnect from the old one.

That's it. Pretty straightforward once you know where to look. If you run into any issues or the option doesn't show up, double check you're using the WhatsApp Business App (not regular WhatsApp) and that your number was actually connected to a platform in the fiirst place.
