The Simple Explanation
Think of your WhatsApp number like it's inside a locked room. The two-factor authentication (2FA) is that lock. Unless the lock is opened, we can't move your number to another room.
We're migrating your number from your current WhatsApp Business account (Room 1) to a new account (Room 2) that has wallet billing setup.
What We're Actually Moving
You won't lose anything during this migration:
Your chat history stays intact
All contacts remain
Templates are preserved
Existing flows continue working
Your phone number stays the same
We're simply moving your number to a better technical setup.
Why This Migration is Needed
Your current WhatsApp Business account has some limitations:
Current Setup (Room 1):
Billing goes directly through Meta
Payment errors and delays are common
New Setup (Room 2):
Pre-configured wallet system ready to go
Credit line already established
Billing runs through Spur instead of Meta
Just top up your Spur wallet and funds get used automatically
Way more reliable payment processing
What happens when you don't turn it off:
We meet this error endlessly and your number can't be connected.
The 2FA Process
Here's exactly what happens:
Step 1: Temporary 2FA Removal
We ask you to turn off 2FA so the "lock" can be opened and your number can leave the current account.
Step 2: Number Migration
Your WhatsApp Business number gets moved to the new account with the wallet system.
Step 3: Automatic Re-Protection
Once your number is secured in the new account, we automatically turn 2FA back on.
Total time with 2FA off: Usually under 30 minutes during the migration window.
Why We Can't Skip This Step
WhatsApp's Business API requires 2FA to be disabled during account migrations.
This isn't a Spur thing - it's how WhatsApp's system works.
Think of it like changing the locks on a house. You have to temporarily remove the old lock to install the new one, but the house ends up more secure than before.
What Happens After Migration
Once your number is in the new wallet-enabled account:
Better billing experience:
Top up your Spur wallet in advance
No more failed payments from Meta
Clear visibility of message costs
Automatic fund usage
Same functionality:
All your automations work exactly the same
Customer conversations continue normally
No disruption to your business operations
Security During Migration
While 2FA is temporarily off:
Migration happens during a scheduled maintenance window
Your account is actively monitored during the process
2FA gets re-enabled immediately after completion
No other account changes are made
This is a one-time process to get you onto the more reliable billing system.
Common Concerns
"Is this safe?"
Yes. This is standard procedure for WhatsApp Business API migrations. Thousands of businesses go through this process.
"Will my customers notice anything?" No. From their perspective, they're still chatting with the same business number. Nothing changes on their end.
"What if something goes wrong?" We can reverse the migration if needed. Your original account setup is preserved as a backup during the process.
"Do I have to do this?" If you want access to Spur's wallet system and more reliable billing, yes. The current direct-Meta billing setup has too many payment issues.
The Bottom Line
This 2FA step isn't about making things less secure - it's about moving your number to a more reliable system that'll save you headaches with failed payments and billing issues.
Once the migration is complete, you get all the benefits of the wallet system with the same security protection as before.
