What Are Spur Notifications?
Spur notifications keep you updated about customer conversations and ticket assignments through your browser. These real-time alerts ensure you respond quickly to customer inquiries, even when you're not actively viewing the Spur dashboard.
How Notifications Work
Assignment-Based System: You only receive notifications for conversations assigned to you specifically. If you're not assigned to a ticket, you won't get notified about it.
Two Types of Notifications:
Ticket Notifications: When a new ticket gets assigned to you
Message Notifications: When customers reply to tickets you're already handling
Setup on Chrome (Works on MacOS or Windows):
Go to Notifications on Spur
2. Click on the blue 'Allow Notifications' button and choose 'Allow' from the pop up that displays next to the URL/Address bar (very important step)
3. Once you allow notifications, your current device will appear in the "Devices" section with:
Device Info: Shows your browser and operating system details
Current Device: Marked as the active device for notifications
4. Turn both toggles on. (Message Notifications and Ticket Notifications:
Message Notifications: Toggle ON to get notified when customers reply to your assigned tickets
Ticket Notifications: Toggle ON to get notified when new tickets are assigned to you
Click "Save Preferences"
5. After that, it'll look like this. Click on 'Save Preferences
Use the "Test Notification" button to verify notifications are working
You should see a browser notification appear
If no notification appears, check your browser settingsMobile Device Setup
A test notification appears from the bottom right side of the screen like this on Windows. On MacOS it shows up from the top right.

iOS Devices
Important: iOS doesn't have a dedicated Spur app in the App Store, so you need to create a web app shortcut first. Here's how to do that.

Step 1: Create Web App Shortcut
Open Safari and go to Spur (use.spurnow.com)
Log into your account
Tap the Share button (square with arrow pointing up)
Select "Add to Home Screen"
Name it "Spur" and tap "Add"
You now have a Spur app icon on your home screen
Step 2: Enable Notifications Through Web App
Open Spur from the home screen icon (not through Safari browser)
Go to Settings
Look for the back arrow icon (←) in the top left corner next to "Settings"
Tap the arrow to access expanded settings
Scroll all the way down to find "Notifications"
Tap "Allow Notifications"
Test notifications to ensure they work
Turn on both notification types:
Message Notifications: ON
Ticket Notifications: ON
Why Browser Notifications Don't Work on iOS: If you try to enable notifications while using Spur through Safari browser directly, the "Allow Notifications" button won't function properly. iOS requires the web app to be added to the home screen first to enable push notifications.
Mobile Notification Benefits
Always Connected: Receive customer alerts even when away from your computer Instant Response: Reply to urgent messages immediately from your phone
Flexible Coverage: Handle customer support from anywhere with internet
Team Coordination: Stay updated on ticket assignments while mobile
Mobile-Specific Tips
Battery Optimization: Some Android devices have aggressive battery optimization that may block notifications. If you stop receiving alerts, check your phone's battery settings and ensure Spur is excluded from optimization.
You can turn on background usage like this for any app from its settings on Android and give it unresticted access to run in the background.
iOS Focus Modes: iOS Focus modes can block notifications. Make sure your work Focus mode allows Spur notifications, or disable Focus during work hours.
Mobile Data: Notifications work on both WiFi and mobile data, but ensure you have a stable internet connection for real-time alerts. Data Saver Mode can prevent background notification syncing.
iOS Additional Considerations:
Low Power Mode: Significantly reduces background activity and notifications
Screen Time Restrictions: May block web app notifications during restricted hours
VPN Issues: Some VPN configurations interfere with push notifications
iOS Beta Versions: May have unstable notification systems

A customer replies to a ticket you're already handling
The conversation continues on a ticket assigned to you
What you see:

Their latest message preview
Managing Multiple Devices
Understanding Your Personal Device List
The Devices section displays only your personal devices where you've logged into Spur and enabled notifications. These are private to you - each team member manages their own device notification preferences independently.
Device Information Display
Each device card shows:
Device Type: Phone, tablet, or desktop computer
Browser/OS Details: Specific browser and operating system information
Notification Controls: Individual toggles for Message and Ticket notifications
Why You See Multiple Similar Entries
You might notice several device entries that appear similar but represent different notification subscriptions:
Different Browsers: Same device using Chrome, Safari, or Firefox creates separate entries
Multiple Login Sessions: Logging in at different times can create additional subscriptions
Private/Incognito Mode: Creates distinct device entries from regular browsing
Browser Updates: App updates sometimes generate new notification subscriptions
Current Device Identification
Your active device is labeled "Current Device" and typically appears at the bottom of the device list for easy identification.
Device Control Options
Change Preference: Adjust notification settings individually for each device
Delete Device/Unsubscribe: Remove notification access from devices you no longer use
This personal device management system ensures you receive notifications only on devices you want alerts from, without interfering with other team members' notification preferences.
Troubleshooting steps if you're not recieving notifications on Chrome (this is site/browser level troubleshooting, same steps for both MacOS and Windows)
Open Spur, click on the icon to the left of the address/URL bar. Click on 'Site Settings'
Make sure notifications are set to 'Allow'
Make sure Chrome itself is allowed to notify you with updates from websites you've subscribed to notifications from.
Go to Privacy and Security, find 'Notifications' there.
Have it set to ''Sites can ask to send notifications.''

Troubleshooting steps if you're not recieving notifications on MacOS (even after trying the above steps)
Find Google Chrome and Google Chrome Helper (Alerts) under Notifications in System Settings
Make sure the settings look exactly like this for both Google Chrome and Google Chrome Helper (Alerts
Troubleshooting steps if above listed steps followed in sequence still don't work:
On MacOS: Make sure to turn Do Not Disturb off. You can turn it off from 'Focus' settings.
On Windows: Check if you have Do Not Disturb turned on. If it is, turn it off.
Also, make sure Focus assist is turned off completely and not set to reactivate at a certain time of day
Enterprise/Corporate Network Issues:
Problem: Company firewalls or security policies may block push notifications
Solutions:
Contact IT department to whitelist spurnow.com and push notification endpoints
Use mobile data as backup when corporate WiFi blocks notifications
Set up notifications on personal device if company policy allows
Browser Extensions and Ad Blockers
Problem: Privacy extensions or ad blockers may interfere with push notifications
Solutions:
Temporarily disable extensions to test notifications
Add spurnow.com to extension whitelists
Use browser's incognito/private mode to test without extensions
Outdated Browser Versions
Problem: Older browser versions may not support modern push notification protocols
Solution: Update to latest browser version, especially important for Safari users
Network Connectivity Problems
Problem: Unstable internet connection prevents real-time notification delivery
Solutions:
Verify stable internet connection
Switch between WiFi and mobile data to test
Check if other real-time services work properly
Integration with Team Settings
Default Assignee Impact: If you're set as the default assignee in Team Settings, you'll receive notifications for all new conversations that aren't caught by automation rules.

Manual Assignment: Team members can manually assign conversations to you, which will trigger ticket notifications.
Privacy and Security
Data in Notifications:
Customer names will appear in notifications
Message previews will appear truncated
Device Security:
Notifications appear on the device that's logged in
Log out of Spur on shared computers to prevent others from receiving your notifications
