Why Did My Account Get Flagged by Meta? What Do I Do?

This is a guide on what to do after your WhatsApp Business Account gets flagged by Meta for sending spam.

Updated over a week ago

Why Did This Happen?

When sending out broadcasts, every account starts with a high (green) quality rating. However, Meta evaluates your marketing messages based on how recipients react. If users:

• Block your number

• Report your messages as spam

• Mark your messages as unwanted

Meta reduces your quality rating, determining whether your messages are seen as spam. The more negative reactions, the more likely your account will be flagged.

What Happens When You Get Flagged?

There are two possible outcomes if your rating drops:

1️⃣ Red Rating (Poor Quality – Account Restricted)

• Your account is flagged as high-risk spam, leading to a 30-day restriction.

• You can request a review through Business Support Home in Facebook Business Manager, but there is no guarantee of reinstatement.

2️⃣ Yellow Rating (Medium Risk – Warning Issued)

• Your number is marked as at risk of being banned.

• You’ll see a warning: “This phone number is at risk of being banned. See our guidelines on how best to send messages to your customers.”

• If the quality rating continues to drop, you may move to red status, leading to account restrictions.

How to Recover and Prevent Future Flags

To restore your rating and avoid a ban, follow these steps:

✔️ Pause All Broadcasts and Marketing Messages

• Do not send further broadcasts until your quality rating returns to green (high).

• Each template and broadcast has an individual rating—ensure that the ones you send are performing well before resuming campaigns.

✔️ Wait at Least 2 Days Before Sending New Messages

• Allow time for your rating to recover before sending additional broadcasts.

✔️ Include an Opt-Out Button in Your Templates

• Ensure every marketing message includes an opt-out option, allowing recipients to unsubscribe easily instead of blocking or reporting your number.

Following these steps will help prevent further quality drops and ensure your WhatsApp Business Account remains in good standing.
