Introducing Custom Fields on Spur
Introducing Custom Fields on Spur

Custom Fields allow you to create contact variables to store custom information and use that across Spur or export it for use elsewhere.

Updated this week

What Are Custom Fields?

Custom Fields are user-defined variables within Spur that can store unique customer information. These fields can be used for:

  • Personalizing WhatsApp messages and automations.

  • Segmenting customers for targeted marketing.

  • Importing and exporting data for better management.

  • Managing customer preferences directly within the shared inbox.

Key Features of Custom Fields

  1. Flexible Field Types
Custom Fields support multiple data types, including:

    • Text: For names, addresses, or other alphanumeric data.

    • Number: For metrics like order count or average order value (AOV).

    • Boolean: For true/false values, such as customer preferences.

    • Date: For storing dates like birthdays or anniversaries.

  2. Default Values
Set default values for fields to streamline data management when creating new contacts.

  3. Integration Across Spur
    Use Custom Fields in:

    • Automations: Build workflows triggered by specific field data.

    • Segments: Create precise customer groups based on custom field values.

    • Shared Inbox: View and edit Custom Fields directly while chatting with customers.

    • Import/Export: Easily populate fields for bulk contacts.

How to Create a Custom Field

  1. Navigate to the Database section in your Spur account.

  2. Click on the Custom Fields tab.

  3. Select New User Field to create a custom field.

4. Name the field and choose a field type (Text, Number, Boolean, or Date).

5. Set a default value if needed and click Create.

Example: Create a custom field named "Address" with the field type set to Text.

Common Use Cases

  1. Personalized Messaging: Use fields like "First Purchase Date" or "Preferred Product" in WhatsApp messages.

  2. Targeted Campaigns: Create segments for high-value customers or specific geographic regions.

  3. Streamlined Workflows: Save customer preferences (e.g., delivery instructions) to avoid repetitive prompts.

  2. Go to Database > Import and Open the Sample CSV link.

  3. Fill in the data for contacts as described in this guide.

  4. Lastly, fill in your custom fields in this format:
