How to Set Up and Integrate Popups with Spur for Enhanced Lead Capture

Learn how to install EcomSend Popups to capture leads and seamlessly integrate with Spur to engage and convert via WhatsApp messaging.

Setting up the pop-up on your website

You get thousands of visitors on your website, yet you're only able to identify those who abandoned checkout and provide their information. Not anymore. Pop-ups are a lucrative way to offer incentive in turn for a lead, and we can opt in people for future marketing campaigns.

  1. Enable App Embed

  2. Create a pop-up and select either Opt-in or Spin the wheel pop-up (let's select Spin the wheel for example)

  3. Edit the rules like - rewards, trigger, etc

    Here you can add an insane reward like "Buy 1 Get 1" or "25% Off" and make the chances of that reward - 0%, this way a lot more people will give their number to get the reward.

  4. Edit the copy of the pop-up and add the phone number field

  5. Enable the phone number field and disable the email field

  6. Edit anything else you want to, like style or different states. When done, go back to Rules and publish the pop-up

  7. That's it! Visit your website to make sure the pop-up is working as expected πŸ™Œ

  8. Now whenever someone will enter their number, a contact will be created on Shopify with just the phone number and few tags will be added like - EcomSend Popups and tag of the pop-up name as well as the offer name (We will use these in automation flows to send the discount they've won).


Setting up the flow on Spur - Triggered when we get a lead

Collecting the lead was only half of the job, it is essential that you share the offer by contacting them on WhatsApp as soon as they fill the pop-up. Even if they don't buy right away, they have your message with the reward as a reminder.

We first need to create the template that we'll send in the flow

Default Template

  1. Go to Marketing Tools and select Pop-ups

  2. Click on "Create Messaging Template" - it will create our default template for you

  3. Go to Message Templates section and find the template there by searching "ecom"

Understand How The Template Was Created

This can help you if you want to create your own template

  1. Go to Message Templates and create a new template

  2. Let's create a Limited-Time Offer Template, as it has a button to copy coupon codes. Also you can name the template - ecomsend_spin_the_wheel_popup

  3. Take inspiration from the template below and publish your template.

Now let's create an automation flow where we will use this template -

Default Automation Flow

  1. Go to Marketing Tools and select Pop-ups

  2. Click on "Create Workflow" - it will create our default workflow for you

  3. Go to Automation Flows section and find the flow there by searching "ecom"

Understanding Default Workflow

This will help you understand how the flow works and if you want to introduce changes to it or create your own flow:

  1. Go to Automations Tab and create a new WhatsApp Flow -> Start from Scratch

  2. Name the flow - EcomSend Spin The Wheel Popup and add a Customer Create starting trigger (since a Shopify customer is created as soon as someone enters their number in the pop-up).

  3. Add a condition block, and check whether the Customer Tags variable contains EcomSend Popups tag (Since this tag is added when a contact is created via EcomSend Popups).

  4. Add another condition block, this time to check which reward the customer has won - we once again check this with the Customer Tags variable (The label of the reward which the customer has won is also added as a tag to their newly created contact on Shopify).

  5. Now we'll add a message block for each condition / reward, use a template message and select the template we just created

  6. Editing the template -
    1 -> Set expiry date in the future

    2 -> Click on the drop down, select upload, choose an image for this message
    3 -> Store name variable
    4 -> The reward they've won
    5 -> Coupon code for the reward
    6 -> Link to where you want to send them

  7. Do the same for the rest of the discounts.

    Tip: You can use different images for different discounts.

  8. Enable the flow on top right and save the flow.

  9. And you're done! Make sure to test it with a


Create Segment - Pop-up Leads with 0 Orders

Creating a segment of all the people who have given their lead from the pop-up and haven't purchased from your store yet

Now you can run a campaign and share an offer with all of these people at once.
