Shopify Pixel can identify customers who are logged in, but in practice it’s still not a very reliable source for tracking Add to Cart events consistently. There are a lot of scenarios where the event can be missed or delayed — for example due to browser restrictions, ad blockers, session issues, customers switching devices, or Shopify’s own tracking limitations.
Because of this, we usually recommend using Spur PopUps instead, since they capture the customer information much more reliably at the source.
Here's how to swap your existing Shopify Pixel trigger with a Spur PopUps trigger:
1. Open your Abandoned Cart automation that currently uses the Shopify Pixel trigger.
2. In the trigger settings, click Delete from the left-hand panel.
3. Make sure the trigger has been completely removed. You should see a "Trigger Removed" notification, just like in the screenshot below.
4. Click + Add Trigger, scroll down, and select Spur PopUps → Cart Viewed.
5. Now it's time to recreate the exit conditions from your original Shopify Pixel trigger. Click + Exit Condition. The first one, "Customer has been in the flow in the last 7 days," will be added automatically—leave that one as it is.
6. Click + Exit Condition again and add the remaining conditions you had before, such as Order Placed and Checkout Started.
If you don't see Checkout Started, no worries! Instead, choose Has been in the flow, and when prompted, select your Checkout Automation Flow. You can also add any other exit conditions you were previously using, like Page Viewed—it all depends on how your automation is set up.
