Why This Matters
You've already done the hard work segmenting customers in Shopify (high spenders, repeat buyers, location based groups). Now use those exact segments for WhatsApp marketing without rebuilding everything from scratch.
Method 1: Tag & Sync (Automated & Scalable)
Better for segments you'll use repeatedly or that update dynamically.
Step 1: Tag Contacts in Shopify
Instead of exporting, add a tag directly in Shopify:
Open your segment in Shopify
Select all customers (checkbox at top)
Click Actions → Add tags
Use a clear tag like "broadcast_23rd_dec" or "winter_sale_eligible"
Apply the tag
Step 2: Sync Shopify Data
Go to Spur Settings → Shopify
Click Import Contacts or Import Orders (this pulls fresh data including tags)
Wait for sync to complete (usually 2-5 minutes depending on database size)
Step 3: Build Your Spur Segment
Navigate to Segments → Create New Segment
Choose Shopify Tags → contains
Type your tag name and press Enter (this is crucial, won't work without hitting Enter)
You'll see the contact count update
Name and save your segment
Step 4: Use in Broadcasts
Your segment is live and ready. Since it's tag based, any new customers Shopify adds to that tag will automatically appear in your Spur segment after the next sync.
Method 2: Export & Import (Clean but Manual)
Perfect when you want a one time campaign to a specific Shopify segment.
Step 1: Create Your Segment in Shopify
Navigate to Customers → Segments in your Shopify admin. Build your segment using Shopify's filters (orders more than 5, customers in Mumbai, etc).
Step 2: Export the Segment
Click Export on your segment page. Choose CSV format. Shopify will email you the file when it's ready.

Step 3: Import to Spur with a Tag
Go to Spur Dashboard → Contacts → Import Contacts
Upload your CSV file
Important: Add a descriptive tag during import like "vip_customers_dec" or "mumbai_5orders"
Map the columns (First Name → First Name, Phone → Phone Number)
Hit import
Step 4: Create a Spur Segment
Navigate to Segments in Spur
Click Create New Segment
Set filter to Shopify Tags → contains → your tag name
Name your segment and save
Step 5: Broadcast Away
Head to Broadcasts, select your new segment, craft your message, and send. Your Shopify segment is now a WhatsApp audience.
