With WhatsApp Business API, you can send welcome messages to your customers as soon as they open a chat with you. It is possible to send a message even if they don't message you, that way you can:

Yes, you don't need to send any message to trigger this flow, it's a great way to get more leads and opt ins!

  1. Quickly showcase about your brand and ask for an explicit opt in for marketing/promotional messages

  2. Collect 2x more leads than typical welcome flow, which only allows sending message after customer sends a "Hi"

Setting up the Flow

As soon as you sign up on Spur, an example welcome flow is already set up for you. To find it got to

  1. Automations β†’ Basic Automations β†’ "WhatsApp Welcome Flow"

Now let's edit the flow, first we'll see the trigger. This is the only trigger for WhatsApp where there is no condition needed, as it triggers as soon as someone opens a chat window with your API number.

This flow will only trigger if the Contact has not been created on Spur and neither does the customer have a chat with your business. It's strictly meant for customers who visit your business on WhatsApp for the first time.

Now, as a next step of this flow, you can send any free form messages as a response. No need to send a template, as this triggers starts a service conversation with the customer itself!

Testing the Welcome Flow
